Abstract

This paper examines homeroom teacher activities at non-public upper secondary schools in Ho Chi Minh City in the context of Vietnam’s ongoing comprehensive reform of general education. The study analyzes the roles, objectives, contents, organizational methods and supporting conditions that ensure the effectiveness of classroom management and student education. Findings indicate that homeroom activities not only contribute to students’ moral and competency development but also serve as a crucial factor in establishing school reputation and ensuring sustainable institutional growth. The author identifies specific challenges faced by homeroom teachers in non-public schools, including the diversity of student backgrounds, limited facilities, parental pressure and requirements of the 2018 General Education Curriculum. Based on these findings, the paper proposes several orientations to enhance teachers’ professional capacity, improve the effectiveness of homeroom management and strengthen collaboration among schools, families and the wider community in fostering holistic student development.
