Abstract

: EGRA (Early reading Assesment) is a tool for assessing reading ability of primary school students. The EGRA method evaluates the nine component skills of reading ability in the literacy phase, based on the principle of working directly between an investigator and a student. Therefore, the training of surveyors and supervisors is important to ensure that all students are assessed objectively by a process and a consistent criterion. In Vietnam, in 2013 and 2014, the School Quality Assurance Program (SEQAP) has twice conducted the EGRA application test to assess the reading ability of more than 3,000 students in grades 1, 2, 3 in 6 provinces across the country. The goal of the experiment was to help educators to grasp the reading skills of primary school students in accordance with EGRA, to develop the first set of tools for implementing the EGRA and to draw out Some initial comments on the level of Vietnamese reading skills of primary school students in Vietnamoach.
