RESEARCH ON ONLINE TEACHING BY VIDEO CONFERENCE WITH THE THEORY OF TRANSACTIONAL DISTANCE: PRELIMINARY RESULTS AT A VIETNAM UNIVERSITY

Abstract
This study explores the compatibility of the theory of transactional distance, a theory commonly used in research and application of synchronous online teaching with the Vietnamese context. The results of a survey of 1,137 students at a university in Ho Chi Minh City validate a first Vietnamese model of this theory, with 3 factors and 10 items. In parallel, the results obtained from 118 teachers from the same university allow us to detect a significant difference with the students in the perception of the same items of this theory. The introduction of this theory in the Vietnamese university context can help educators to understand the importance of taking into account the online learning modality in the studies and in the implementation.
