READING ABILITIES OF 3rd GRADE KHMER STUDENTS (CASE STUDY IN SOC TRANG PROVINCE)

Abstract

The 2018 Vietnamese Primary School Program is centered around the development of reading abilities. This is one of the four essential language abilities that a language learner must possess. Failure to acquire this skill will constrain the development of all other skills. Nevertheless, ethnic minority pupils typically have challenges when it comes to reading, necessitating significant efforts from both students and teachers in order to meet the necessary standards. The article presents the findings of a survey conducted in April 2023, which involved 120 Khmer students in Soc Trang. The study aimed to assess the reading skills of Khmer students in comparison to Kinh students. Based on the results, the article provides recommendations to enhance the reading proficiency of Khmer students in Soc Trang.
