DEVELOPING A COOPERATIVE ECONOMY TOWARDS A SELF-RELIANT AGRICULTURE IN THE MEKONG DELTA
Abstract
In building an independent and self-reliant Vietnamese economy associated with comprehensive and deep international integration, the autonomy of the Mekong Delta's agriculture plays an important role. Based on the basic factors that agriculture needs to have to ensure self-reliance in development, based on secondary data and field survey results, the study analyzes the current situation of the role of cooperative economic organizations in the Mekong Delta in ensuring the basic factors for self-reliant agriculture in this region. The research results show that cooperative economy contributes significantly to self-reliance in production conditions, inputs, outputs, financial resources, human resources, science and technology for the Mekong Delta agriculture, however, these contributions are still limited. Thereby, the study recommends a number of necessary policies to promote the role of cooperative economy in building self-reliant agriculture in the Mekong Delta, focusing on three groups of policies: raising awareness of the role of cooperative economy; supporting cooperative economic organizations; developing cooperative economy in the new context.
