Abstract

Segregated residence is a concept in urban sociology that describes the occurrence of distinct groups residing in separate areas within the same urban environment, attributable to varying levels of social stratification. This phenomenon contributes to urban ecology and functions as a filtering process in accordance with established regulations. This study examined the phenomenon of segregated residence in Can Tho city through analysis, synthesis, and the application of theories from prior research, utilising qualitative data collected in the area. The findings indicate that in Can Tho city, family residence choices are predominantly influenced by the standard of living. The capacity to finance housing influences the requirements, preferences, and aspirations of each household in this decision-making process. The residence of social classes in urban communities such as Can Tho is increasingly characterised by segregation.
