THE DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONALISM, CIVIL RIGHTS, AND DEMOCRACY THROUGH SOCIO-POLITICAL TERMINOLOGY IN THE QUOC NGU PRESS IN THE VIET NAM SOUTHERN REGIONA
Abstract
The period 1918 -1930 witnessed a proliferation of argumentative essays across diverse domains, including literature, culture, philosophy, society, politics, economics, and contemporary issues. A significant focus of these argumentative essays is the advocacy of nationalism, democracy, and civil liberties. An examination of these essays reveals that at the dawn of the 20th century, the Vietnamese lexicon had developed a relatively comprehensive and sophisticated array of political and social terminology, with a commendable proficiency in the application of these terms within the texts. This article seeks to analyze and elucidate the function of terminology as a mechanism for articulating concepts, thus serving as a foundational axis of knowledge and perspectives that enable authors of argumentative essays to elaborate upon themes pertaining to nationalism, civil rights, and democracy.
