A MOMENT FOR IN-DEPTH DISCUSSION: WHAT HAS CONTEMPORARY VIETNAMESE SOCIOLOGY ACHIEVED OVER THE PAST HALF-CENTURY?

Abstract

The years 2025-2026 mark a highly meaningful moment for the sociological community to undertake a broad and serious assessment of the achievements and limitations of contemporary sociology in Viet Nam after half a century (1975-2025) and after forty years of the politics Doi Moi (1986-2026), and to articulate a vision for the next phase of development. To do this effectively requires strong commitment and a substantial engagement among the leaders of sociological research and training institutions, in coordination with the Viet Nam Sociological Association. Subsequently, the task of building on achievements, addressing shortcomings, and realizing the new vision will in turn require strong determination, a willingness to embrace change, and robust management capacity.
