HISTORICAL CONTEXT, CHARACTERISTICS, AND INFLUENCE OF BUU SON KY HUONG ON INDIGENOUS RELIGIOUS TRENDS IN SOUTHERN VIETNAM (19th - 20th CENTURIES)
Abstract
From the mid-19th century, several indigenous faiths evolved in Vietnam's Southwestern area and marked a new period in Vietnamese history. This article looks about Buu Son Ky Huong, one of the few indigenous faiths to exist in modern and current Vietnamese history. Based on secondary data from previous studies, the article examines the historical context that led to the emergence of Buu Son Ky Huong; the characteristics of this religion; and its influence on several subsequent indigenous religious phenomena and trends in Vietnam's Southwestern region. This demonstrates that the formation of Buu Son Ky Huong is deeply rooted in the historical setting of the nineteenth century, as well as the Vietnamese people's longstanding ideological and cultural traditions.
