Abstract
When researching Hobbes's work, K. Marx once remarked: “Hobbes was the one who systematized Bacon's materialism” (1995: 196). Based on that perspective, the article analyses Hobbes's view of humans – machines and citizens in Leviathan – in order to understand more about how to shape and appreciate the capacity of scientific research for humans in today's scientific and technological boom.
