FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN THE SOUTHEASTERN REGION: QUESTIONS ARISEN ON REGIONAL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
Since the appearance of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam (1988-2018), the Southeast region has always been in the lead in term of the number of projects and total investment capital compared to other regions. Although the gap of FDI between provinces and cities in the region is high, FDI has helped to develop many fields in the region, in which the industry - construction has a remarkable advantage in the number of projects as well as FDI capital. In addition, FDI creates many jobs that contribute to limiting the unemployment of workers, gradually forming a team of skilled managers and workers, improving the quality of human resources, science and technology transfer... Besides, there are a number of issues in the region that need to have appropriate solutions in order to ensure the FDI attraction and the sustainable development in the Southeast region.
