GRABBIKE DRIVERS IN THE SHARING ECONOMY: CASE STUDY IN HO CHI MINH CITY
Abstract
The article’s aim is to provide an overview of the work of independent providers, Grabbike drivers in particular, in the sharing economy. Through in-depth interviews conducted in Ho Chi Minh City, the article shows the role of Grab in creating new jobs and improving unemployment in many Vietnam’s areas as well as in Ho Chi Minh City. However, the survey’s results also show there are many risks that Grabbike drivers may face while working. Therefore, the article proposes that the country and local authority should recognize that Grabbike drivers as employees to allow them various law protection. Besides that, it is needed to require Grab to register their business in Vietnam as a transport service business through connecting software to force Grab to be more responsible with its "partners".
