A STUDY ON ENGLISH MAJORS' ANXIETY OF LEARNING CHINESE AS A SECOND FOREIGN LANGUAGE (A case of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh city)
Abstract
This study explores the state of anxiety and the factors that affect the anxiety in learning a second foreign language in Chinese of English major students in Banking University of Ho Chi Minh city. On the basis of Horwitz's theory of anxiety in foreign language learning, we conducted a questionnaire survey with 156 of this University's English major students in November 2019. The results showed that the anxiety about the exam and the worry about learning Chinese were the highest, while the anxiety about the class had the lowest level; gender, study time and age do not affect the level of anxiety; The higher the student's anxiety level, the lower the academic achievement; Chinese characteristics are the main cause of student learning anxiety.
