Abstract

The article systemizes published studies on the types of jewelry found at archaeological sites in the coastal area of Can Gio (HCMC) and compares them with types with similar shapes, materials and techniques found in other locations in the mainland and islands of Southeast Asia in the prehistory such as: Sa Huynh (Central Vietnam), Fengtian (Taiwan), Borneo (Philippines), Khao Sam Kaeo (Thailand)... Thereby, the article contributes to proving that the ancient communities of Can Gio had cultural contact and exchange with other communities in Southeast Asia and beyond; this area might have been one of the "primitive ports of town", the transshipment place for the international maritime trade network in the past.
