THE SPIRIT OF NATIONAL DIGNITY IN NGO THI NHAM’S PATRIOTISM CONCEPT: CONTENT AND HISTORICAL LESSON

Abstract

With his patriotism and national pride, Ngo Thi Nham was a typically well-known diplomat of Vietnam in the 18^th century. Ngo Thi Nham was free from the obligations by the political feudalism, and free from the Confucianism’s viewpoint of ‘loyalty to the emperor’ in order to stand by the people righteousness on the ground of protecting the national cultural values and the upmost independence of the whole national territory from the Qing Dynasty’s invasion. Understanding the patriotic thought of Ngo Thi Nham makes positive contributions to the learning and promoting of the country’s great traditional values in the current cause of national defense and development.
