IMPACT OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON MIGRANT WORKERS IN THE INFORMAL SECTOR OF VIETNAM (Before the 4th outbreak in 2021)
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a global serious crisis, affecting all aspects of social life, especially to vulnerable populations, including migrant workers in the informal economy. The article assesses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labor market in general, employment and income in particular, as well as the responses of migrant workers in the informal economic sector by analyzing some research results of the situation in Vietnam. The assessment results show that the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have caused migrant workers to face difficulties and risks such as job loss, reduction or loss of income, forcing them to adopt responsive strategies to emergency situation. This article suggests some of social policies to support migrant workers in the informal sector in adapting to the context of the pandemic.
