THE DIFFERENCES IN STUDYING LANGUAGE BETWEEN VIETNAMESE AND FOREIGN STUDENTS
Abstract
We taught Vietnamese language to 123 foreign students, include Thailand (64), Korea (30), Taipei (7), Cambodia (8), Laos (6), Malaysia (4), England (2) and America (2). All of them had studied Vietnamese language before visiting Vietnam to take B.A. in Vietnamese learning. An input survey on Vietnamese ability of these subjects shows that they can speak Vietnamese corresponding to Level A of CEFR or Novice Low, level 1 of ACTFL; and writing ability is lower. Except for the module tests, we tested the subjects' Vietnamese skills every 4 weeks, with listening, speaking and writing skills. After 16 weeks, the writing results of the subjects were only better than the initial survey but still only at Level A. As for the speaking ability, there was an improvement worth considering. We selected 123 Vietnamese students, majoring in English Education in Ho Chi Minh City for comparison.
