SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MEKONG DELTA UNDER DOUBLE IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE & THE COVID19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

At the end of 2019 and early 2020, the Mekong Delta faces great and unprecedented challenges which were drought, saltwater intrusion in the dry season of 2019-2020 and the Covid19 pandemic. These two events have seriously affected the production activities and people livelihood in the Mekong Delta. Based on the analysis of secondary documents and qualitative survey results of the final assessment of the Climate Change Adaptation Project in the Mekong Delta in Ben Tre and Tra Vinh, the article analyzes the current status of impacts of climate change and the Covid19 pandemic on socio-economic activities and the residential lives. Thereby, the article gives some recommendations for regional sustainable development.
