Abstract

Megalopolis - a strip of 12 municipalities located on the coast in Northeastern United States, from Boston to Washington D.C. is typical for the connectivity of a region, notably waterway traffic with most urban areas having river or seaports for convenient trade with each other, then by road connecting the region and the outside. With a geopolitical approach, J. Gottman identified the locations and characteristics that bring Megalopolis prosperity and power. That is the compass characteristic of Megalopolis; the main street of the United States; the gateway to ocean navigation; the connection by wide urbanization, the symbiosis between urban and rural areas; the cosmopolitan and ultimately the "hinge" position of the Megalopolis.
