Abstract

There has been a consensus in the international sociology that the social stratification theories by Karl Marx and Max Weber are the classical grounds for the social stratification studies. Based on these two theories, many sociologists have
framed different classifications for the empirical research, including the notable long-term attempts by Erik Olin Wright and John Harry Goldthorpe. Over the past forty years, Wright’s and Goldthorpe’s classifications have been used by many sociologists to survey particular social stratification systems. Since the late 1990s, the landscape of the international social stratification studies has continuously portrayed by David Bryan Grusky and his colleagues. They also proposed an
analytical framework of social stratification by eight types of assets.
