Abstract
Since the beginning of 1990s, the term of corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been given by the European Commission in its sustainable development strategy. However, the official definition of CSR had not been promulgated until 2001. Creating open dialogue forums, complying with international standards to aim at innovation, increasing competitiveness, creating jobs for workers and sustainable development of the region are considered guiding principles for the direction of constructing and developing the CSR policy of the EU. The article aims to analyze the CSR of the EU policies and regulations as well as the practice of implementing social responsibility at businesses in Europe.
