Concept of secularization, secularizing discourse, the Vietnamese contemporary genre of literary portraits
Abstract
This article focuses on the research of expressions of secularized discourse in the Vietnamese contemporary genre of literary portraits. It focuses on the works Nineteen Portraits of Contemporary Writers (Vũ Bằng), Portraits and Dialogues, People One Often Meets (Trần Đăng Khoa), Lovable Extremes (Phan Thị Thanh Nhàn), Casting a Net to Catch Birds (Nguyễn Huy Thiệp)... to clarify the authors’ secularized discourses. And, via such discourses, the readers will visualize more realistic, close, and vivid portraits of writers and poets from close-up and everyday perspectives. With the perspective of secularizing discourse, the genre will potentially become a historical witness to a period of renovation for the country.
