Abstract
Tuệ Trung Thượng sĩ was a Mahayana Zen master, he was born in the royal family of the Trần Dynasty. With a unique practice style, he flexibly made harmonious changes between Buddhist teachings and traditional culture. He was a contributor to Vietnamese Buddhism with many unique meditation ideas, offering meditation methods for effective practical application such as bất nhị, kiến tính, hoà quang đồng trần, nhập thế tuỳ duyên (non-duality, dṛṣṭi-svabhāva (Kenshō - seeing essence), harmony with the world, enter the world depending on fate). Using simple words, his poetry serves as a useful means to disseminate Buddhist meditation ideas, aiming to practice Zen in secular life. This article analyzes the manifestation of the spirit of Buddhist meditation through the specific views of Tuệ Trung Thượng sĩ to clearly see the thoughts of a Zen master during this period.
