Abstract

The strong development of communitarianism in the West was based on a comprehensive critique of liberalism, neo-liberalism and individualism by J. Rawls. Communitarians such as M. Sandel, C. Taylor, M. Walzer... criticise severely J. Rawls's theory of justice from its origins to its value orientation and ultimate purpose. If J. Rawls establishes all values originating from the individual to the community; rights must take precedence over good; and individual rights are the prerequisites that determine the ways of values towards justice; communitarianism is built in the opposite direction. In the last goal, Rawls pursues justice as the moral virtue of the social system; whereas communitarians believe that justice is just one of many personal virtues and emphasize public welfare as the supreme concern of communitarianism.
