Abstract

Thăng Long was the imperial citadel of the Lý, Trần and Lê dynasties with a rich history of thousands of years of civilization. The archaeological discoveries found here in the period 2002-2009 were immensely significant. Notably, the discovery of a large quantity of ceramic types has provided important documents that reflect aspects of life, culture, society and religion in Thăng Long imperial palace. Based on the researches on the ceramics of the Initial Lê dynasty discovered at the Thăng Long royal palace site, it is observed that white-glazed ceramics were found in large quantities and the greatest diversity in terms of forms and grades. These materials also indicate that the white-glazed ceramics were commonly used in the daily life of the royal palace during that period. This article will focus on introducing the forms, materials, patterns and techniques of the white-glazed ceramics in the Early Lê dynasty, and thereby clarifying the cultural history of the Thăng Long royal palace during the Initial Lê dynasty.
