Law of Three Stages in Auguste Comte's Positive Philosophy

  • NGUYỄN THÀNH NHÂN

Abstract

The law of three stages of development is considered the fundamental theoretical foundation and the method of research and presentation in A. Comte's entire system of positive philosophy. He deemed that each individual and community in almost every field of human knowledge does undergo three stages of development: theological or fictional; metaphysical or abstract; and scientific or positive. Despite certain limitations compared with the progressive thought of humanity, A. Comte's law of three stages is one of the great philosophical ideas developed in the 19th century
