Abstract

In 1987, the H’mông people in Vietnam’s northern mountainous region began to follow Protestantism listening to FEBC (Far East Broadcasting Company) and Nguồn Sống radio, broadcast from Manila, the capital of the Philippines. From 1992 to before 2005, the religion developed "abruptly significantly" among the ethnic minorities. At present, the evolution of Protestantism is stable, meeting the needs for religious activities of the people. However, there are still a number of complex issues that localities need to pay attention to. It’s because the numbers of Protestant followers, organizations, and denominations continue to increase, leading to a higher need for religious activities; the construction of the house of worship or "chapel" takes place in many localities without reporting to the authorities; while there have been internal conflicts among Protestant organizations, denominations, and congregations, and bad forces’ activities of taking advantage of Protestantism to propagate ideas of separatism and for autonomy.
