Disease pattern characteristics at District 8 Hospital in Ho Chi Minh city during 2022-2024
Abstract
This study aimed to describe the disease pattern characteristics among patients with health insurance at District 8 Hospital during the period 2022-2024. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted, using retrospective data through the hospital’s health information management system for all inpatient and outpatient visits covered by health insurance from January 2022 to June 2024. During this period, there were a total of 452,979 health-insured patient visits at District 8 Hospital, of which females accounted for 57.5%; patients aged ≥60 years represented 49.1%; 72% of treatment episodes were reimbursed at an 80% coverage level by health insurance. The three most common disease groups were circulatory diseases (47.5%), respiratory diseases (10.8%), and endocrine-nutrionalmetabolic disorders (9.2%). Of 5,653 inpatient cases, influenza and pneumonia accounted for 66.4%; among 213,394 outpatient circulatory visits, hypertension alone accounted for 94.1%. These findings provide a critical foundation for hospital leadership to optimise the essential medicines formulary, revise chronic disease management policies, develop context-appropriate healthcare strategies, and allocate resources effectively - thereby enhancing the overall quality of medical services.
