Abstract

Currently, the development of remote sensing and GIS technology, and satellite image data are being used in the world and in Vietnam to monitor drought, bringing efficiency with outstanding advantages compared to monitoring traditional. The study employed a methodology that involved: Analyze data from remote sensing technology and geographic information system (GIS); Calculate Water Supplying Vegetation Index (WSVI) and Landsurface water index (LSWI) based on Landsat 8 and 9 image data from April 2022 – April 2024; Convert numerical values to electromagnetic radiation values; Calculate radiant temperature; calculate surface temperature (LST); Calculate drought indices to monitor and evaluate the drought situation in Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province. The results show that the WSVI index and LSWI index reflect the level of drought quite consistent with actual investigation data in Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province during the period from April 2022 - April 2024. According to actual investigation data, the drought situation in this area in April 2024 is very serious, concentrated in two communes Ia Rve and Ea Rok. Meanwhile, the drought situation in April 2022 is less severe. The monitoring and evaluation results of this study are intended to provide early warning of drought in Ea Sup district, Dak Lak, to help the government and people take response measures.
