THE CURRENT SITUATION AND SOLUTIONS TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT PLASTIC WASTE FOR STUDENTS IN HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract

Plastic waste is a serious global pollution issue as it negatively impacts the environment, ecosystems, and directly threatens human health. Therefore, effective measures are needed to minimize and manage plastic waste, especially in raising awareness among students. Through data collection and analysis, a study surveyed 105 students from 24 universities in Ho Chi Minh City on plastic waste and solutions through an online survey. The results showed that 100% of students use plastic products, especially plastic bags. Although all students are aware of the harm of plastic waste, 73% believe that bioplastic has no impact on the environment and humans, and 11% believe that all plastic waste can be recycled. As a result, the study proposes awareness-raising solutions for students in Ho Chi Minh City, such as actively promoting the concept and harm of plastic waste from school to classroom regularly and continuously, organizing environmental seminars at all levels.
