Abstract

Uncontrolled urban development and high greenhouse gas emissions have been putting pressure on urban areas in our country. The study was conducted to recreate the current status of the urban green space system to monitor urban greenhouse gas emissions and apply "green solutions" to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as to economically evaluate the number of carbon credits that green space brings. Smart and effective solutions with economic value in the green urban development strategy. The study uses GIS technology and global tree data to build a map of green space distribution in the inner city of Hanoi. The results calculated the area covered by green space is 9,141.7 hectares, equivalent to 3,336,720.5 tons of CO2/year and the scenario of the economic value of carbon credits calculated at 5 USD for Vietnamese planted forests, is about 16,683,602.5 USD. Along with that, calculations will show that Hanoi needs to plant about 9,151 hectares of additional forests to offset the amount of CO2 emitted annually, contributing to achieving the Net Zero target by 2050.
