AWARENESS, ATTITUDE AND BEHAVIOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION OF ETHNIC MINORITIES IN THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS - A CASE STUDY OF DAK NONG PROVINCE

Abstract

Sustainable development in the economy, society and environment of ethnic minority and mountainous areas is a general trend and an urgent requirement of our country in the current period. After more than three decades of Doi Moi, the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands has been improved, but economic development has seriously affected the rural living environment. Based on research methods: Document collection; sociological survey; participant observation; data processing, the article explores ethnic minorities' awareness and behavior of environmental protection today. The results show that, ethnic minorities’ awareness, attitudes and behavior of environmental protection are good, expressed through their concern for environmental pollution and their actions to protect the environment. However, there are still some ethnic minorities who do not care about environmental protection or have behaviors that are harmful to the environment. Lack of reporting about the actions that harm the environment, environmental protection have not yet become public opinion of ethnic minorites. Based on the survey results, the article suggests some solutions to improve quality of environment of ethnic minorities in Dak Nong province.
