Assessment of adaptability and response solutions in the landslide area along Hau river, Chau Phu District, An Giang province

Abstract

In recent years, the increasing demand for construction investment along with the construction of reservoirs and hydroelectric dams in upstream countries has gradually decreased the amount of mud and sand in the Hau River, and the river water level is lower and lower. Since then, the situation of landslides on the banks of the Hau River in An Giang Province in general and Chau Phu District, in particular, have been occurring with more frequency and causing damage to residents physically and mentally. The study focuses on assessing the current status and finding out the causes of landslides along the Hau River in recent years. Its impacts have affected the spirit and property of community, thereby the Government agency makes appropriate policies and solutions to promptly help residents adapt when the landslide of the riverbank occurs. According to the results collected from 2018 to 2022, the landslide situation in Chau Phu District was 84 cases, of which seven cases of landslides were on the banks of the Hau river in the study area, causing the loss of approximately 6,150 m2 of land area.
