SITUATION OF CHILD MARRIAGE IN SIN HO DISTRICT, LAI CHAU PROVINCE

Abstract

Sin Ho district is a mountainous, border district of Lai Chau province with a total natural area of 152,696.03 hectares, with 12,973 km of border adjacent to Kim Binh district, Yunnan province (China), complicated terrain, steep slopes, difficult transportation, unsynchronized infrastructure development, the economy is underdeveloped, the rate of ethnic minorities is 94.1%, the rate of poor ethnic minority households is 99.9%, and the rate of near-poor ethnic minority households is 100%. With the characteristics of being a poor district, the border area has rugged terrain with an almost absolute rate of poor and near-poor households among ethnic minorities, along with the rate of illiteracy, customs and practices are still backward in people's social life. Therefore, the current situation of child marriage and consanguineous marriage still occurs in ethnic minority areas in general and in ethnic minority areas in Sin Ho district, Lai Chau province in particular.
