Orientation and solution for preserving and promoting the values of Bao Vinh old Town.

Abstract

In the current urbanization context, solving the problem of balancing the protection of cultural values but not hindering the development of urban areas are challenges in urban management. State resources for heritage conservation are quite limited. The seeking to mobilize social resources in the process of preserving and developing the heritage has become a new direction in the current period. Bao Vinh old Town is located in the overall structure of Huế urban with the function of being an urban port of the ancient capital under the Nguyễn Dynasty. Researching and preserving Bao Vinh old Town needs a multi-dimensional view from which to propose feasible solutions that have not yet been implemented for more than 20 years, leading to serious degradation of antique architectural construction works. Local authorities need to reassess previously approved planning projects as a basis for formulating appropriate policies and plans to preserve and promote the distinctive its values so that Bao Vinh soon became a attractive and interesting destination for domestic and foreign tourists, contributing to creating a sustainable environment, preserving local traditional values in the process of urban development.
