Abstract

Kim - Kiều’s love symbol being in folk PoeMS of the South
Nguyễn Du’s masterpiece The Tale of Kiều influences folklore that does not need to be discussed further. However, with its strong spread, the Tale of Kiều has become itself an “ancient allusion” in folk literary works. The folk poems of the South also received it to express the nuances of affection in the sentimental poems. Among them, The Tale of Kiều was used to express the chagrin mood of a loving couple. Moreover, from the separation between two characters of Thúy Kiều and Kim Trọng, the common people in the South have made comparisons with the specific situations that they want to disclose. At the same time, with this one the Southern people show their admiration for the faithful love of two characters. Understanding The Tale of Kiều appearing as an “ancient allusion” of Vietnamese medieval literature applied by popular people in Southern folk songs which were also exploring the diversity of its reception in the Southern area.
