Abstract
This article is a contrastive study between Italian and Vietnamese vowels. The main research method is to compare phonetic and phonological theories from textbooks, dissertations written in Italian and Vietnamese. The study is conducted with the aim of helping Italian learners in particular and those interested in the field of phonetics and phonology in general clearly see the similarities and differences between these two vowel systems. The research results can be considered a reference for teaching Italian to Vietnamese students, as well as the first step in building the most suitable teaching methods, textbooks, and pronunciation lessons for those Vietnamese who learn Italian.
