An analysis of rhetorical structure of English book reviews in linguistics

Abstract

Book reviews have undeniable value across disciplines, not only for readers but also for authors of the reviewed books. Writing book reviews is a necessary task that scientists should do to contribute to their field. Globally, book reviews attract interests of scholars from different perspectives, especially in genre analysis. However, in Vietnam, this genre has not received adequate attention. This study analyzed the rhetorical structure of 30 English book reviews in Linguistics. Based on the results, the study built a rhetorical structure of book reviews in this field. It is hoped that the results will contribute to the theoretical backgrounds of book reviews and serve as a useful reference for those interested.
