The current situation and solutions for self-learning Vietnamese vocabulary among second- year Laotian preparatory students at the Military Technical Academy
Abstract
Vocabulary serves not only as a crucial tool enabling international students in general, and second-year Lao preparatory students at the Military Technical Academy (MTA) in particular, to use the language flexibly in daily communication, but also significantly impacts their academic research and knowledge acquisition in Vietnam. This study employs a mixed-methods approach to assess the current situation and challenges in the self-study of Vietnamese vocabulary among 16 second-year Lao students at MTA. The findings reveal several difficulties, including heavy vocabulary load, inaccurate pronunciation, limited practice opportunities, and incomplete comprehension of word meanings. Based on these findings, the study proposes technology-based learning methods to enhance vocabulary retention and application, thereby improving students' overall learning effectiveness.
