Towards the compilation of a French-Vietnamese dictionary of police terminology
Abstract
This paper proposes a scientific approach towards the compilation of a French–Vietnamese dictionary of police terminology, addressing the growing need for standardizing specialized terminology in the context of international integration. The study applies theories of lexicography, contrastive linguistics, and corpus analysis to construct a five-phase process: collecting and classifying domain-specific corpora, establishing equivalent term pairs, standardizing entry structure, consulting experts, and finalizing presentation on a dedicated software platform. The dictionary is designed according to a hierarchical conceptual structure to ensure accuracy, internal logic, and high applicability in training, translation, and legal collaboration. The article also identifies certain limitations of the current research and proposes future directions such as practical trials, integration of intelligent search technologies, and expansion into multilingual contrastive studies.
