Formation patterns of phrasal terms referring to assemblies and parts of automobile’s automotive mechanical systems
Abstract
In practice, the inconsistency and lack of standardization in automotive engineering terminology hinder the field from fully meeting the diverse demands of this dynamic and fast-evolving industry. Using the Intermediate Constituent Analysis method, this paper examined and evaluated the formation patterns and structural characteristics of 972 English and 987 Vietnamese phrasal terms, sourced from a specialized dictionary and technical references, all of which refer to assemblies and parts within automotive mechanical systems. The study provides a detailed analysis of 16 predominant structural models (each comprising more than ten terms) out of a total of 27 identified patterns. The findings also highlight trends in term formation and offer recommendations for the standardization and systematization of Vietnamese automotive terminology.
