Application of ChatGPT to improve business French writing skills at the University of Commerce, towards a controlled integrated model

Abstract

This paper conducts a systematic literature review of national and international studies on the application of the large language model ChatGPT in higher education. The study focuses on analyzing the role of ChatGPT as a writing assistant through a review of 35 highly relevant articles. In addition, the author carried out an empirical survey to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating ChatGPT into a business French writing course at Thuongmai University. Based on the theoretical framework of the Hayes & Flower writing process model, existing research on ChatGPT and empirical survey findings, the article proposes a controlled integration model that applies ChatGPT in the outlining (optional) and revision stages of teaching commercial French writing; pointing out the potential benefits of ChatGPT such as idea support and language feedback; and proposing pedagogical solutions to limit risks such as plagiarism and technology dependence.
