Abstract
Compound words account for the majority of Vietnamese vocabulary and exhibit strong productivity in word formation. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on Vietnamese compound words. Since the late 20th century, both Chinese and Vietnamese scholars have made significant progress in researching Vietnamese compound words. Their studies have primarily focused on classification criteria, morpheme order, and the semantic relationships between morphemes and compound words. This article synthesizes research on Vietnamese compound words by Chinese and Vietnamese scholars, offering a more comprehensive understanding of the topic and proposing new directions for future research.
