Abstract

Language is a crucial means of communication for human beings, particularly for children. For children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the acquisition and development of language face significant challenges, including limitations in vocabulary. The period from 6 to 10 years of age is a critical stage wherein children must refine their linguistic skills to effectively acquire academic knowledge in a school setting. In this article, we analyze the quantitative characteristics of vocabulary in children with ASD aged 6-10, including a comparative analysis among children with varying levels of autism severity and against the preceding developmental stage (3-6 years). Furthermore, we propose several intervention strategies aimed at enhancing the lexical repertoire of children with ASD during this period.
