Research Trends on “Metadiscourse” Worldwide: A Review of Book Publications
Abstract
This study aims to provide an overview of the global research landscape pertaining to the field of metadiscourse. The theory proposed by Hyland (2005) offers a critical analytical framework for understanding the interactions between writers/speakers and their readers/audiences, as well as elucidating the relationship between authors/speakers and their texts. To achieve the research objectives, a synthesis method combined with statistical tools was employed to analyze 20 relevant publications retrieved from the Scopus database. The study presents key aspects such as prominent authors, outstanding publications, annual book publication trends, and the fundamental contents of the published works. The findings not only furnish a comprehensive perspective on the current state of metadiscourse research worldwide but also facilitate Vietnamese scholars in accessing and applying this theoretical framework to analyze various text genres. This exploration opens new avenues for research and enhances the quality of scholarship on metadiscourse in Vietnam.
