In residential architecture, each part of the house has its own function, and in Chinese, these parts are used as conceptual metaphors to represent the roles of family members. Based on the theory of cognitive metaphor, this article establishes the conceptual structure and mapping diagram of house parts in Chinese, especially how they reflect the roles of each family member. The study analyzes the mapping from the source domain of house parts to the target domains such as: THE ROLE OF THE HUSBAND, THE FATHER, THE ROLE OF THE WIFE, THE MOTHER, THE ROLE OF THE CHILDREN. At the same time, the article compares these mappings with Vietnamese to find out the similarities and differences in the linguistic and cognitive representations of family roles in the two cultures.
