Proposed process on developing parents’ communication skills for children with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) face specific difficulties related to communication and social interaction. Active parental involvement has a profound impact on the development of children with ASD. Supporting parents with communication skills will help children develop sustainably in various circumstances and situations. Based on the findings of a survey on the current status of communication skills between parents and children with ASD, along with theoretical foundations, this paper proposes a 6-step process for developing communication skills in parents of children with ASD, thereby optimally supporting the child's development, especially within the home environment.
