Abstract

In the context of educational reform under the 2018 General Education Program, the development of lesson plans oriented toward fostering students’ competencies and qualities has become an essential and mandatory requirement for teachers. Based on theoretical perspectives on the role of lesson planning and the practical implementation of instructional guidelines, this study focuses on clarifying the concept of lesson plans and thematic instructional planning in teaching History, while also providing guidance on designing effective lessons in line with a competency-based approach. The research findings indicate that a high-quality lesson plan must clearly define its objectives (in terms of knowledge, competencies, and qualities), make effective use of teaching materials and learning resources, and organize a coherent instructional process comprising the following activities: warm-up, knowledge formation, practice, and application. These findings contribute to enhancing the quality of History teaching and concretizing the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program. The study also recommends that teachers flexibly apply the lesson plan framework, develop creative and context-appropriate thematic/lesson plans, and promote students’ independent thinking and problem-solving skills.
