TỰ SỰ VỀ CÁI PHI NHÂN TRONG TRUYỆN NGẮN CỦA NGUYỄN NGỌC TƯ
Abstract
This article highlights the shift in storytelling approaches to the nonhuman in several short story collections by Nguyễn Ngọc Tư from the perspective of ecocriticism and narrative theory. Nguyễn Ngọc Tư focuses on portraying nature and nonhuman entities in modern literature, particularly examining how she explores worlds beyond the human realm. Through an examination of collections such as "Không ai qua sông" (published in 2016), "Gió lẻ và 9 câu chuyện khác" (published in 2019), "Khói trời lộng lẫy" (published in 2021), and "Trôi" (published in 2023), we observe two prominent narrative models in Nguyễn Ngọc Tư’s short stories: first, narratives about the nonhuman from a human perspective; and second, narratives about the nonhuman from the perspective of the nonhuman itself. These observations reveal a noticeable change in the narrative approach to the nonhuman in her short stories. This transformation marks developments in her narrative techniques and more clearly expresses the author’s ecological consciousness.
