Abstract

In lower secondary Natural Science education, experiments not only help students reinforce theoretical knowledge but also play a crucial role in developing scientific competencies, especially the competency of exploring the natural world. This paper presents the design and implementation of selected experiments on the topic “Metabolism and Energy Conversion in Organisms” within the Grade 7 Natural Science curriculum – Canh Dieu textbook series – based on the competency-based approach. The experiments are grounded in solid theoretical foundations, aligned with textbook content and the requirements of the 2018 General Education Curriculum. Through implementation, the experiments effectively fostered students’ competencies such as scientific inquiry, practical and experimental skills, application of knowledge to real-life situations, critical thinking, and collaboration. The results provide practical implications for teachers to organize effective teaching activities aligned with the orientation of developing students’ qualities and competencies.
